For those you wanting an aquatic adventure, our Kayaking Party is the destination party with a difference. Kayaking is such an amazing outdoor activity and one for the whole family to partake in and enjoy.

Suitable for all levels of kayakers so don't let that hold you back. This is a safe and exciting experience for kids and parents alike. A chance to be out on the historical Puhoi river to enjoy nature and all the beauty that the River provides.

This party offers a safe leisurely un-guided paddle along the Puhoi River which meanders 8km from the Bohemian village of Puhoi through to the scenic Wenderholm Regional Park.

This is a destination party that allows you to explore this magical river, Puhoi and the wonderful regional park of Wenderholm. Therefore you will be required to find you own way to Puhoi Kayaks.

Puhoi is located approximately 45 km north of Auckland from the CBD and lies on the banks of the Puhoi River.

Puhoi means 'slow water' in Māori indicating the slow moving nature of the river.

They have been operating since 1995 so have plenty of local knowledge and top tips, to ensure you get the most out of your day.

How our Package works:

The Puhoi River is tidal so our Kayaking Party is a fabulous one way trip either paddling on a downriver or upward tide. So either from Puhoi to Wenderholm or Wenderholm to Puhoi - but we'll let you know your best options for the day you have chosen.

You leave your cars at one end and the courtesy shuttle will be waiting for you at the other end, to return your driver to collect your car. The team from Puhoi Kayaks will collect all your flotation devices and kayaks, leaving you to get on to enjoying that picnic and no doubt birthday cake!

When you arrive at either home base in Puhoi or Wenderholm, you will be provided with basic paddling instructions from the team then fitted with a comfortable buoyancy aid. Once we find a kayak suited just for you, we'll take you to the river, put you into your kayak and set you on your way to explore the gentle flow of the majestic Puhoi River.

If you are doing the downriver paddle you will leave from 'Puhoi Kayaks' home base in central Puhoi, then will head through native bush, farmland and down into the mangrove forest.

During your journey, you may have the opportunity to observe Herons, Pukeko's, Kingfishers, and other stunning birds moving gracefully among the trees. If you listen closely, you might be fortunate enough to catch the distinctive laughter of the kookaburras.

You will meander on down the wide estuary to the Wenderholm Regional Park with it’s Pohutukawa fringed beaches - this is so beautiful to visit.

Your one way trip in either direction takes around 1.5-2 hours so no doubt the kids will be ravenous by the time you get to the end, so you may want to consider a BBQ picnic at Wenderholm or there is the beautiful domain in central Puhoi to set-up a picnic.

Terms and Conditions

As this Kayaking party is in collaboration with Puhoi Kayaks you must adhere to the terms and conditions laid out by Puhoi Kayaks as per below.

For the safe operation of all kayaking equipment owned and operated by Puhoi River Kayaks Ltd all participants must meet the following Customer Criteria.

No children under the age of 3. All kayakers must be able to sit up unaided. All children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
If it is raining on the day and you'd prefer not to paddle (although you still have that option to paddle in the rain) you can either rebook your date or your booking will be refunded.
All Clients must correctly fit and wear the buoyancy aid provided by Puhoi River Kayaks Ltd. Clients may bring and wear their own buoyancy aids provided they adhere to NZ Safety Standards.
Weight limitations: Single kayak 135kg Double kayak 250kg
All kayakers must understand and follow our instructions. All instructions are provided in English only sorry we do not provide a translation service.
No alcohol/drugs/illegal substances are allowed in the kayaks.
All participants should be dressed appropriately for kayaking. For your safety please wear light summer casual clothing e.g comfortable active wear. Jandals or trainers are okay.
Please bring: Sunhats/sunblock essential for hot sunny days, Raincoat for rainy days. Bring a Water Bottle and you may like to take a small bag with some snacks. A towel & change of clothes is a good idea to leave in the car to change into if you get wet kayaking.
No Dogs are allowed in Wenderholm regional park so unfortunately your fur buddies have to stay home.
You must ensure you make us aware of any medical conditions that may affect you or the members of your group’s ability to undertake the activity.
To ensure safety we reserve the right to refuse hire due to adverse weather/river conditions or if a client is unsuitable due to age, size, ill health or poor fitness or in our opinion are likely to endanger themselves or others.

Kayaking/Canoeing is an adventure activity and there is an element of risk involved. Puhoi River Kayaks Ltd make every effort to ensure our clients have a safe and happy experience.

Participants should be aware that no operator can absolutely guarantee your safety however we have taken all practicable steps to identify and minimise potential dangers. You must therefore follow our instructions and use the safety equipment provided at all times.

If any of your party is under 15 years old, the adults are responsible for them following the instructions and using the safety equipment provided.

Puhoi River Kayaks Ltd cannot be held responsible for injury, loss or damage to any person/personal property if you fail to follow our instructions therefore by accepting these terms and conditions you release or indemnify Puhoi River Kayaks Ltd and our staff from any liability we incur from failing to follow our instructions.
